UFC 121 Preview And Predictions-The Main Event

This is the fight that everyone has been waiting for! That also means it's time for UFC 121 preview and predictions.

The main event features a heavyweight bout for the ages, with Cain Velasquez challenging Brock Lesnar for the title. Two huge people are going to meet in the middle of the cage and throw hands like you've never seen before.

Both competitors have a Division I wrestling background, and both fighters have the heart of a lion. So, when the dust settles, who is going to have their hand raised at the end of the night?

Brock Lesnar

The champion has a lot going for him. One thing everyone is always going to talk about in reference to Lesnar is his shear size. The guy is definitely a mountain of a human being. On top of that, he's fast. He's fast to the point of disbelief that a man his size could possibly move like that.

One thing people aren't talking about is leverage. Some fighters, because of their knowledge and application of leverage, seem much bigger than they actually are. BJ Penn comes to mind when you think of fighters like this.

Lesnar has the same knowledge of leverage, stemming from his wrestling background. That means he seems even bigger than he really is when he's on top of you.

That's just plain scary.

Add to that the fact that he's got a great chin, and a mean streak when he's in that cage, and you have the formula for the baddest dude walking the planet.

Cain Velasquez

Cain brings a tool to the cage that few other heavyweights can match, his conditioning. It's exceedingly rare to see a fighter in the heavyweight division bring a pace like the one that Velasquez brings to the cage.

Another X factor is his mental toughness. He is incredibly tough mentally and has an incredible fighting heart.

As far as fighting tools go, he is extremely well rounded. He has great striking, fast hands, and a very good knowledge of submissions. Cain brings a package to the cage that is very difficult to match in the heavyweight division.

The Prediction

Call me crazy, but I am actually predicting an upset in this fight.

I think Cain is going to be able to edge Brock with superior mobility, faster hands, and a fuller gas tank.

Official Prediction: Velasquez by TKO, round 3

Let me know what you think, and if you agree or disagree.

You're crazy...lol

Actually, I'm picking Brock because I've seen massive improvement from Brock in each fight. I expect to see a big improvement on the standup game from Lesnar as he showed a need for improvement in that area in his match with Carwin. Brock is extremely fast for a guy his size so I don't really expect Cain to have any significant advantage there. Lesnar is also known to have a pretty good gas tank too, so again, I don't see an advantage there for Cain.

I expect Brock to hold his own in the standup and if he gets into any trouble, it will go to the mat where Brock's size will prevent an escape by Cain and Brock will ground-n-pound his way to another win.
